Online Mindfulness Offerings for Covit 19 Days

Phone: 00-353-868539227

MeditationDear Friends,

As many of you know I have been wondering how best to respond to this extraordinary pandemic and all of its challenges. Over these past days I have come to realise that especially in our social distancing and self isolating we more than ever need community and solidarity.

A Capuchin Franciscan Bro Richard Hendrick articulated the crises and opportunity of living through Covit 19 so well in this poem he recently wrote.

Yes there is fear.
Yes there is isolation.
Yes there is panic buying.
Yes there is sickness.
Yes there is even death.
They say that in Wuhan after so many years of noise
You can hear the birds again.
They say that after just a few weeks of quiet
The sky is no longer thick with fumes
But blue and grey and clear.
They say that in the streets of Assisi
People are singing to each other
across the empty squares,
keeping their windows open
so that those who are alone
may hear the sounds of family around them.
They say that a hotel in the West of Ireland
Is offering free meals and delivery to the housebound.
Today a young woman I know
is busy spreading fliers with her number
through the neighbourhood
So that the elders may have someone to call on.
Today Churches, Synagogues, Mosques and Temples
are preparing to welcome
and shelter the homeless, the sick, the weary
All over the world people are slowing down and reflecting
All over the world people are looking at their neighbours in a new way
All over the world people are waking up to a new reality
To how big we really are.
To how little control we really have.
To what really matters.
To Love.
So we pray and we remember that
Yes there is fear.
But there does not have to be hate.
Yes there is isolation.
But there does not have to be loneliness.
Yes there is panic buying.
But there does not have to be meanness.
Yes there is sickness.
But there does not have to be disease of the soul
Yes there is even death.
But there can always be a rebirth of love.
Wake to the choices you make as to how to live now.
Today, breathe.
Listen, behind the factory noises of your panic
The birds are singing again
The sky is clearing,
Spring is coming,
And we are always encompassed by Love.
Open the windows of your soul
And though you may not be able
to touch across the empty square,
March 13th 2020

Like many I believe that this exceptional time in our lives provides us with not only the necessity of supporting each other and building community, but also the opportunity to be creative in how we live and work in this strange new land. So, over the past week I have surprised myself with my ability to embrace working online. I was really supported in this by other mindfulness teachers and organisations already active in the online space to whom I am indebted. I am delighted now to be to invite any who would like to join me to participate in the following offerings – a one day pf mindfulness practise ( €40 fee) and several free ongoing mindfulness offerings where we can gather to be and build community. I will be hosting all of the events on Zoom so to join any particular event you just use the specific event zoom link included under each offering. If you are new to Zoom please do not shy away. Below I include information on how to connect and get comfortable with this online platform.

Zoom instructions for gatherings

Before the meeting
So that you and everyone who joins the live meeting has the best experience, please follow these steps:
1.  If you already have Zoom, take time now to ensure you have the latest version . If you’re not sure, to be safe, download and install the latest zoom version.
2. If you are new to Zoom, click on the link here to have a quick look at the set-up in advance of the gathering. If you like, you can join a zoom test meeting here.
3. If an internet connection is not available or yours is unsteady, you can connect by phone by following instructions from the facilitator when joining the meeting (look for the “Phone Call” option near the top of the box that appears when you join the session).
4. Test your connection including microphone and camera so you can find and resolve any issues before the gathering starts.
5.  If you’re new to zoom, use the test meeting to locate the controls listed in the instructions on the rest of this page.

Joining the meeting
1. You’ll be prompted to join the meeting by clicking the button on the gathering page.
2. Please leave your microphone on as you join so that we can greet each other. Before we begin the session I will then as you to mute your microphone (using the button on lower left of your Zoom window) and to keep yourself muted unless you are speaking. This minimizes echoing, background noise and unintended camera switches, since zoom cues camera changes based on audio).
